Opening for Kehlani on her sold-out #SweetSexySavage Tour is no small feat, and no chance occurrence for Toronto's up and coming talent JAHKOY. If we could buy stock in musicians (someone please figure out how we can) we would sink everything into this tour - JAHKOY, Ella Mai, and Kehlani. Crazy, young, talent. Whoever put this tour together knows their stuff.
JAHKOY was first up to bat at the sold out Vogue Theatre. Honestly, the women in the crowd started losing their minds before he could even begin a dance move... and we kinda get it, this guy has charm. JAHKOY stuck to his big tracks from the Foreign Water EP and sounded absolutely on point start to finish. No studio magic here.
And what was cool to see was that JAHKOY was genuinely stoked to be on stage. His energy was contagious as he glided through his set - no going through the motions at all. Catching an artist before they blow up takes work, but man is it ever worth it.
JAHKOY finished off his set with 'Don't Stop The Vibe' (stream above) and you could tell the crowd wanted more. Our only complaint about the set was how quick it was - we get it, he's the opener, still 2 acts before Kehlani. But he was KILLING it. It would have been amazing to hear some of his earlier joints - Still in Love, or Hold Your Hand to name a few. Oh well. Until next time when he's headlining.
And of course he performed his biggest tune to date - California Heaven ft. Schoolboy Q (watch video below). Huge shotout to JAHKOY's team for having us at the show, and Timbre Concerts for hosting! Let's hope a sold-out (in minutes) R&B show will ensure we get more like concerts in the future! 6lack headlining would be just fine with us...
